A recent study by ProPublica and Urban Institute found that:

  • 56 percent of people above 50 get pushed out at least once

  • The odds of their being re-employed decreases by 2.6 percent for every year increase in age.

  • If they do, it takes inordinately long for them to find another job

  • They experience hidden age discrimination in the hiring process 

  • Only one in 10 of these workers ever again earns as much as they did before.
